Spending time at the Live Free Or Die Tattoo Expo, you’re sure to see a lot of interesting things. There’s beautiful tattoos, gorgeous jewelry, interesting piercings, and of course, the events. The most eye catching of these events has to be the suspension show. This incredible display usually features a lovely lady being pierced with large hooks and held up in the air. It is quite an amazing thing to watch and has been a part of the LFOD Expo for a very long time!

The act of suspension has been around for thousands of years. It is thought that the first people to utilize body suspension as a religious penance lived in India. The Mandan tribe, located along the banks of the Missouri River, believed that suspension was a rite of passage to become a warrior. Today, many people suspend as a form of meditation or to put themselves in the mindset of “if I can do this, I can do anything”. However still, there are people who hang just to hang. Regardless of the reason, many people love the experience and usually return for more. Some who suspend claim to feel almost high, a feeling of euphoria that is unrivaled.

There is a great deal of math that goes in to the process as well. Those who will rig the suspension need to know the weight bearing points on the ceiling and what’s above, if anything. Not to mention the person pulling the weight up needs to know exactly how heavy the subject is in order to exert the correct amount of force to lift the person. The pulley system that needs to be made to hoist a person up is incredibly complex and difficult. It should only be attempted by a professional.

It is extremely important to remember that only those trained to suspend should be handling these kinds of situations. Do not try to duplicate what you see at the suspension show at the LFOD Expo. Feats like these which are performed by trained professionals, with other professionals standing by, are incredible to watch. The person suspending has an incredible experience, a euphoric sensation that provides them with release from stress and anxiety. Those doing the suspension get the satisfaction of knowing that they helped with that feeling.

Come to the Live Free Or Die Tattoo Expo this year and see this amazing show for yourself!
